Staff

Toni Eubanks is the director of both the Barton and the Glover Public Libraries. She became involved with libraries when her children were in elementary school in Massachusetts doing everything from volunteering in the school library, running programs for the public library, and leading reading workshops for the school classes. Her family moved to this area in 2003 and she started working as the assistant librarian for Barton seven months later. She now is a new member of the Green Mountain Book Award Committee. Susan joined the library staff in November, 2005 as Assistant Librarian. Prior to that, she taught English and History at Lake Region Union High School for 24 years. She loves to read and share that enthusiasm with the library patrons and finds the exchange with patrons a stimulating dynamic. Other interests include cross country skiing, hiking and gardening.

Jessica joined the library staff in February, 2008 as Children's Librarian. She brought great organizing ability as well as excellent creative skills to continue the wonderful children's programs at Barton Public Library. She utilizes not only her teaching background but also her role as a parent of two lively youngsters. Jessica runs a great story hour as well as the summer reading program. Jessica loves to spend time with her family, as well as cooking, gardening, and, of course, reading.

Volunteers

Mary moved to Barton when she was two years old and lived here until college. She married and lived in the Burlington area for thirty years. Mary and her husband moved back to Barton and started the Barton Golf Club on Mary's family farm. She has a son and a daughter and four wonderful grandchildren. Mary has been volunteering at the library for several years and really enjoys it.

Can you believe that Garde has been a volunteer at Barton Public Library for 14 years! She taught primary school in Newport and that, coupled with her love of reading, brought her to the library. From helping with children's programs to shelving or bulletin boards, Garde is a fantastic resource. Family tops her list of interests followed by reading, knitting and camping.

Elizabeth has been a volunteer at the library for one and a half years. She lived in Westchester County in New York before moving to Barton five years ago. Elizabeth helps Susan with the Senior Housing book deliveries. Once a month, Susan and Elizabeth deliver library books to the five senior housing centers in Barton. Elizabeth enjoys reading fantasy literature and is a movie buff. And she graduated from the Culinary Arts program at the North Country Career Center in Newport. Elizabeth is owned by Toby, a beagle, Alice the cat and Smokey the ferret.

Muriel has been volunteering at the library for over twenty years! Besides her work at the desk, she also thoroughly cleans the library weekly. Muriel grew up in Island Pond and probably read every book in their library. She and her husband, Rupert, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in November, 2010.  They own a large farm in Barton and have two children: Tammy is a teacher in Newport, and Seth is a guidance counselor at Lake Region Union High School. Muriel and Rupert have three wonderful grandchildren.  Muriel knits children’s sweaters, and enjoys reading Christian literature and biographies. Rupert reads history books.

Andrée started volunteering at the library in the summer of 2010. She does the web site, blog, Twitter, Facebook and Flickr sites, photography and technical training. She has a background in computers and mathematics education. She has three children: Amelia is the assistant director at Frontier Animal Society in Orleans,  Anna lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut, and Andrew lives and works in Washington, DC. Andrée and her new husband have four cats and an old house that they are renovating. They love to cook together, hike and photograph the flora and fauna of the north woods. Jim came to the Northeast Kingdom from Maryland, where he worked as an aerospace engineer. He has volunteered at the library for over ten years now. Jim processes our acquisitions, does minor repairs on books and other media, and shelves books. Jim's favorite author is Sara Paretsky. He reads broadly in biography, history, politics and mystery. Jim also volunteers at Frontier Animal Society in Orleans. He adopts old dogs so that may live the remainder of their lives in peace. He currently has four cats, two dogs and two children at home. Jim is a member of the Northeast Kingdom Peace & Justice Group. They hold vigils for peace every Wednesday in Newport and every Friday in Barton.
